Using Language for Influence and Engagement

Just as some individuals seem to have an ability to elicit high quality information and reveal hidden structures through incisive questioning, some individuals seem to exhibit a complimentary yet distinctive set of skills that enables them to stimulate agreement and creativity in an elegant and almost effortless manner. They exhibit the capacity to accommodate and value the perspectives of others in an inclusive and respectful manner. They are able to steer discussions in the direction of ethical, mutually beneficial outcomes without alienating or excluding others. Those they interact with feel valued, accepted and empowered to generate new ideas and solutions. Individuals with this set of skills may well be using some of the patterns of the Milton Model. You could become one of them …

Using Language for Influence and Engagement NLP Training Course (2 Days)

Overview

The Milton Model was one of the earlier concepts developed within NLP and was developed from the work of the legendary psychiatrist and hypnotherapist, Milton H. Erickson MD. Erickson’s language patterns have now been taught to thousands of others for use in influential, everyday conversation as well as within formal hypnosis. Erickson was a passionate fan of language and realised that the words we use are powerful factors in creating our perceptions of reality and what is and is not possible. He delighted in pioneering the use of empowering language patterns that were designed to stimulate and encourage his clients to develop their own solutions to their difficulties or problem issues.

Erickson’s powerful language patterns were analysed and codified by many of his students, including the co-creators of NLP, and were distilled into a set of learnable structures that are called the Milton Model. Milton Model patterns have been taught to a wide variety of diverse audiences who share the common desire to use language in a creative and inclusive manner that elicits cooperation and stimulates problem solving processes. It is the perfect complement to the information-gathering skills of the Meta Model.

NLP Milton Model: Milton Erickson Techniques

NLP Milton Model: Milton Erickson Techniques

Inspired by Milton H. Erickson and created by linguists John Grinder and Richard Bandler, the NLP Milton Model is a reverse set of the Meta Model approach, which focused on specifying generalisations, distortions and deletions in a person's language.

The NLP Milton Model, for indirect interpersonal communications, instead utilises the patterns the Meta Model specifies. It lists the key speech patterns and part of speech that can direct someone's train of thought, and is based on the idea that general use of language can lead to more rapport in a conversation, whilst more specific language presents more limits and is more likely to exclude those partaking in a conversation.

It is most commonly employed to help distract the conscious mind, increase conversational rapport and lead people into altered states with access to unconscious resources in another person's mind.

Who Would Benefit from Milton Erickson Techniques?

The NLP Milton Model has benefits which allow those using it to effortlessly accommodate the values of others, which is why Milton Erickson techniques are often used by directors and managers in large organisations to steer discussions onto more beneficial and ethical outcomes, whilst including all of those present.
